Root beer, espresso and tomato. I have some samples coming if anyone wants to try them. I may fat wash the tomato with some bacon to get close to my blt cocktail idea.
So, HRD Root Beer Schnapps has a new competitor. Wonderful.
Schnapps and vodka aren't even close. I'm not going to criticize a product that I haven't had the chance to taste yet.
I believe you mean that American schnapps and vodka aren't even close. In terms of birthright, vodka and schnapps are almost indistinguishable from one another. But these days, the syrupy sweet stuff that passes for schnapps in America is a far cry from the stuff you'll find in Europe.
But I agree, comparing 3 Olives flavors to the bottom-shelf liqueurs put out by Hood River Distillers without having tried either is in poor form.
Not a criticism of the product, nor a misunderstanding of the differences between schnapps and vodka. Just noting a new root beer flavored product on the market. I find it very interesting that Three Olives is going for atypical flavors. I suppose there are enough lemon/raspberry/orange and so on flavored liquors on the market.
HRD Root Beer Schnapps has been on my mind recently, as it was the unofficial sponsor for a friend's foosball tournament.
I'd actually really like to try the Three Olives Root Beer vodka, and share with my foosballin' friend. I'm a sucker for Root Beer, Sarsparilla, and Birch Beer. I'll have to stop by Pearl Specialty to see if these are in yet.
These arent in the state yet. I'll let you know when it is. But the following is in: Rittenhouse Rye $14, Jeffersons Reserve $49, Prichards Double Barrel Bourbon $58, Matusalem Gran Reserva $41, Hangar One Raspberry $45, One Barrel Rum $25, Black Maple 23yr $155, St. George Absinthe $82, Elmer T Lee $28, St. James Royal Amber Rhum $31, Lemon Hart 80 proof $19, Del Maguey Chichicapa and Del Maguey San Luis Del Rio $77. Thats it for now.
I got my samples last night. I'll keep all of you (except Mr. Vodka Hater Jeff ) in the loop/
I'm excited to try the tomato. I love that they are doing flavors that are completely different, I agree that there are enough lemon vodkas on the market. Has anyone tried all of the new pinnacle flavors? I tried the cherry, three berry, and the kiwi strawberry. Supposedly, whoever did the three olives flavors are doing the pinnacle flavors and the cherry and the berry were quite similar. I hated the kiwi strawberry, I thought it had a very manufactured chemically flavor to it. But I am a fan of the pinnacle vodka, the straight we pour in our well and it is a very clean easy to drink vodka, especially for the pricepoint. My liquor store is reluctant to bring the pinnacle flavors in as he doesn't have a ton of shelf space and he already has 100 flavored vodkas, but I feel they are worth trying - they are definately profitable. As for the blt cocktail, good luck with that. I tried to make one with bacon, tomatoes, and blue cheese and it was absolutely awful. But I love the idea!
Its nice to see this thread get back on topic. The tomato vodka is clearly my favorite of the bunch, with a deep, natural tomato flavor. I'm going to fat wash it with bacon this weekend. The rootbeer isn't my favorite, but it does have a deep pronounced root beer flavor. I just don't generally mix root beer flavored things. And the espresso is really nice, but packs a potent buzz from the caffeine.
