This First Thursday my work is running a promotion with Glenlivet.

For each Glenlivet drink we sell at Bay 13, they'll donate $$$ to the Cascade AIDS Project.

Does anyone have any nifty scotch cocktail recipes / tips / suggestions?  I'd appreciate the input.  I always drink my scotch just plain...so if any of you have amazing ideas I'll use them respectfully and reverently on Thursday for a good cause.

Oh, and the other part of the promotion involves Glenlivet donating $$$ for every kilt-clad bartender on shift...so yeah, I'll be in a plaid skirt while trying to maintain a high level of professionalism.

    Thanks guys.

Scotch is hard to work with. I think there so few scotch cocktails for the same reason that there are so few tequila cocktails: the flavor profile is unique, and earthy, and not all that mixable.

That said, there are some good ones out there. The Rob Roy and the Rusty Nail come to mind. I think the flavor of honey works well with Highland scotches like Glenlivet. Try experimenting with lavender, ginger and fortified wines like port, sherry and Pedro Ximenez.

    That's all I got.

All he's got?! Ha! Try this one, Aimee. I've only made it with Johnny Walker Red, but Glenlivet is worth a try.

I've got to agree with Jeff in the difficulty of working with Scotch. That said, some Scotch cocktails I like are the Blood And Sand, and Bobby Burns. Perhaps you could work up a Scotch Collins? I have also, on occasion, made myself an Old Fashioned using Scotch (Glenlivet actually) and rather liked them. I think Glenlivet is one of the more mixable Scotches, though that might just be my taste, so I would posit that trying out some classic Whisky drink using Glenlivet would yield at least a couple of good results.
