    eje said, in another thread,

I love Antica, but as a home bartender, really wish it came in a half litre bottle. Too expensive to throw away once it gets stale.

Having just opened my first litre of Carpano Antica Formula, I'm inclined to worry about spoilage as well.

Erik, do you refrigerate your vermouths?
and what's the lifespan in storage like? (or how much time are you getting from the one bottle)
how does it change as it oxidizes? what smells and flavors should I be wary of?

Hiya, yeah, absolutely all the vermouth stays in the fridge at home.

Some people say those vacuum sealers for wine help.  I've never tried them to say if it is an improvement or not.

I don't really notice off flavors so much with Sweet Vermouth, it just gets kind of tired tasting after a while.  The herbal elements fade and the bigger flavors, like the cherry and vanilla take over.

    Anyone got a better description?

I try to use dry vermouth when I'm cooking, which helps go through the bottles, and buy half bottles of the M&R Rosso.

    Erik,

This might be a sign that you aren't drinking enough.

If I had the option to choose what to drink every night, it would be all Manhattans, all the time. No problem going through that Antica!

Sadly, duty calls, and the Stomp continues...
