I know David is more of the cocktail competition guy than I am, but I thought I'd make you aware that Tales is sponsoring a cocktail competition to create the official drink of Tales '08. Its got to be a punch and must include Old New Orleans rum as well as some other restrictions. I contacted the people at Tales as ONO rum isn't distributed in Oregon and I received this nice response from their brand ambassador.
For the Tales of the Cocktail Competition we are offering a special on the Old New Orleans Amber Rum. $25.00 which includes shipping. Please feel free to give me a call at your earliest convenience and I will ship it out to you. We also take orders over the phone and ship via Fedex. You can reach us at (504) 945-9400.
Here are the standard prices of our products:
New Orleans Crystal $17.99
New Orleans Amber $21.99
New Orleans Cajun Spice $24.99
New Orleans Ten Year Special edition $55.00
I'm guessing the ten year survived Katrina?
I haven't heard much good about this rum, but thanks for the heads up! I contacted them and the $25 is per bottle, no volume discount.
Have you (guys, anyone) tried the ONO rums lately? I'm reading mixed reviews.
I haven't but for $25 I'll give it a try. If its crap, I'll give it a scathing review on my blog (which should make me Mr. Popular at Tales)
Why did I have to go and buy a house?! Curses!
You might be able to write-off the expense as professional development or materials too. I acknowledge your punditry, sir.
Well, I bit the bullet and ordered a bottle today. We'll see how it is.
Got my ONO last night. I won't be playing with it until Sunday at the earliest though. Its kind of weird though, they filled the box with bumper stickers and promo materials for their products.
I love swag.
If its good swag. I have no use for bumper stickers.
Am I the only one that thinks that having a liquor related bumper sticker on ones car is just an invitation to any fine member of our police forces to pull one over to check for a duii? Sorry, I'm not advertising rum on my car. No thanks.
So I bought a bottle of Martell VSOP to go with the ONO Amber rum required for this drink. I'm thinking that it makes the most sense to do the rum as the base with the cognac maybe as a float? I'm going to use a 1-1 simple for the sweet (at least initially). Citrus, I'm thinking orange with maybe some lime juice added, for spices, my initial thought is star anise, but I'm very open to playing with a lot of spices or some unusual combinations. Caraway works well with orange and it would definitely be different if nothing else. Or I could go the cardamom route pretty easily. I'll just have to tinker with it for some time.
What about tea? we did an English Breakfast for our Flowing bowl last night at Teardrop and it was great.
