My question would be: Do you think it would be overkill for all of us to submit? Maybe just a group entry? I think we want to promote, but maybe not over-promote.
If everyone's up for it, I think it speaks volumes for the Guild to contribute as a unified voice. We needn't always do so, but that's a hell of a way for us to get our name out there.
MxMo is next Monday over at Jimmy's Cocktail Hour (http://www.mixographer.com/) The theme is variations, which is pretty broad and seems like a topic we could all do. I've completed mine (but haven't posted yet), I'm doing a variation on a Negroni with Aperol (in place of Campari), Punt e Mes (yeah, its bitter, but I needed more bitter with the loss of the Campari), Aviation gin and a dash of lemon bitters. Quite tasty, but its definitely not a Negroni with the Aperol. More like a first cousin with a pronounced bitter orange flavor.
If anyone wants to participate, I'm happy to put it up on my blog. I probably need a pic of the cocktail too, if you contact me early enough, I can probably come take a pic if needed.
Is it all right to post w/ homemade product. The Japanese variation on our menu, called the Cyclone Ranger, has house bitters. I know you weren't all that crazy about it yourself, Lance, but you were something like 18 sheets to the wind at that time already (yes, 180 thread count).
Let me know if you want to take pics...I don't know how to handle a digital camera, or post whatever shots I took.
Also, Raiders of the Lost Cocktail has a deadline of the 15th for anyone interested in that. The theme this time is Apricot Brandy.
Here are some of the guidlines taken from Paul Clarke's site (he's the host http://www.cocktailchronicles.com/ )
Here’s how it works: Participants post drinks using a specified ingredient by the deadline, and the cocktails must come from a previously published source (which should be included in the post, though the drink doesn’t have to be unique to that publication) — we’re revisiting classics here, so hang onto your original creations for other events. And since we’re trying to spread the good word, preference is given to drinks that use more common ingredients and are not too complex to prepare, so ideally you’ll be able to order the drink in as large a number of bars as possible. The winning cocktail is selected by the host, and the blogger behind the winning cocktail becomes the host for the next round … and the circle continues, ad infinitum
I already had an entry in when I noticed the Tempter in Patrick Gavin Duffy the other day. Simply equal parts ruby port and apricot brandy. A little on the sweet side for me, but definitely an interesting starting point for something more interesting.
Should we perhaps make this a general category instead of guild biz?
I can stop by with a camera. MxMo from my limited knowledge is ok with homemade ingredients. I don't believe Raiders is though.
Yes, I would think this is general info.
Changing the category to general now.
