ROGUE HAZELNUT IS A SMASH IN COCKTAIL CONTEST
Rogue Hazelnut Spice Rum is in the mix for a place in Oregon cocktail history in Travel Oregon's "Create an Oregon Bounty Cocktail."
Cherry-Hazelnut Smash is one of the finalists for the title of "Unofficial Official Oregon Cocktail."
The cocktail, which features Rogue Hazelnut Spice Rum mixed with Clear Creek Distillery Kirschwasser, Oregon hazelnuts and Oregon cherries, will be available at Rogue Distillery and Public House during Rogue's Oregon Bounty open house and new product sneak peak.
Rogue Spirits will offer distillery tours with distiller Melissa Heim and tastings of all Rogue Spirits, including the new Pink Spruce Gin, Pinot Vodka and Dead Guy Whiskey Saturday, Oct. 4 from 2 to 5 p.m. Representatives from other Oregon distilleries will also have spirits to sample and taste in cocktails.
Pink Spruce Gin is aged in used Oregon Pinot Noir barrels to give it a smoothness and subtle pink hue. Pinot Vodka is triple distilled from Oregon Pinot Gris wine and triple charcoal filtered. Dead Guy Whiskey is double distilled from Rogue Dead Guy Ale sweet wort and aged on oak.
Each of the new spirits, as well as Rogue White Rum, Dark Rum, Hazelnut Spice Rum and Spruce Gin will be available for tasting and in signature cocktails. Rogue Spirits will also be available for sale by the bottle.
Mixologists from across the state submitted nearly 200 cocktail recipes to the "Create and Oregon Bounty Cocktail" competition. James West of Eugene created the Cherry-Hazelnut Smash, which will compete with the other finalists during the Oregon Bounty kickoff, Wednesday Oct. 1 from 4-7 p.m. at the Pearl District's Blue Hour Restaurant and Bar. The grand prize winner will receive a weekend getaway package to the Oregon Distillers Guild Spirits Tasting Oct. 11 at McMennamin's Edgefield in Troutdale.
