I've unfortunately sold myself on my own grenadine, and can't go back to off the shelf. I'm seeing they're a High Fructose Corn Syrup user, according to this thread on Tiki Central.
But if you're up for it, pick up some of their Teriyaki sauce as well.
Thanks, but that doesn't answer any of my questions above.
I've tried it and all I have to say is that it is better than Rose's.
...and that's about it. Stirrings is miles better. Better still for the budget of the barkeep is Torani's Pomegranite syrup. We use it at thatch. Cheap and no HFCS: Cane syrup only.
I'd suggest getting a bottle of that and the angostura next to each other for a taste comparison.
Good idea Craig. I'm curious simply because Ted Haigh recommends it in his book on vintage cocktails.
I can't believe Stirrings makes good grenadine, but I'll take your word for it.
I didn't say it was good, merely better than the angostura (to these worn out taste buds) ;)
I'm not a huge fan of the stirrings, it came off to me as too weak and sweet, like a kiddie version of POM juice.
I ended up reducing my bottle of stirrings and adding a 1/2 tsp of citric acid. Made it a bit more to my liking.
I thought the Stirrings was weak and lacked color. Drinks ended up kind of washed out looking and tasting. And then the damn bottle got a thick layer of green mold on top, so I threw it out. Much happier with the Torani pomegranate syrup. Was going to make some grenadine, but came across the Torani cheap and went with it over shelf life concerns for the homemade.
