I'm still waiting on these. I'm not a patient man.
Angustura Orange Bitters huh? Sounds like another turn in the paradigm shift of mixology.
I received them last night. They are simply incredible. They are made with a combination of sweet and bitter oranges, and have a flavor reminiscent of good English marmalade. Very complex, I think I prefer them to Regans or Fees.
Kegworks is listing these bitters as "in stock and ready to ship." They also list the whiskey-barrel aged aromatic bitters from Fee Bros.
As I obviously won't get to taste these bitters until they are on the open market, I hope someone posts what they taste like. I don't hate the fee brothers orange bitters, but I've always found the flavor to be a bit juvenile - a bit like baby aspirin or orange fanta. I would like to see an orange bitters on the market with a bit more complexity.
The best description I can give is good english marmalade. Its definitely got more of a pronounced orange flavor vs Regans (which is more herbal imho). And Fees doesn't compare.
Just ordered mine from KegWorks on Amazon, along with some Tovolo perfect cube trays, and a surprise or two for the next Tiki Night at Teardrop, June 17th.
Time for some Pegu Clubs, Martinis and Bijous to give these things a run for their money. I'll have to put together a 4-way Orange Bitters sampling (Regans, Fees, Angostura, Domestic).
Got mine in from Kegworks yesterday. They're lovely in a Bijou, and as a bit of a pick-up in housemade ginger soda. A surprising amount of sweetness with the bitter backedge, definitely complex. I can see finishing these bottles at about the same pace I do regular Angostura.
FYI, Pearl Specialty will be carrying the Angostura Orange bitters next week for $13.99.
Just got mine this evening, also from Kegworks. To make the shipping cost worthwhile, I had to buy a couple of other things, Regan's Orange Bitters for one. Tasting the Angostura, the Regan's and the Fee Brother's side by side was interesting. The Fee's is sweet with almost no bitterness, the Regan's is bitter with almost no sweetness and the Angostura is sweet to start and quite bitter in the finish. Lot of complexity in there. It is definitely my favorite on its own. I've only made a Scofflaw with it so far, but I'm quite happy with it.
I like it quite a bit, too, Sylvan. It's so multi-faceted, especially with that nudge of orange peel. If anyone sees it ont he shelves, pipe up.
Pearl Specialty told me that it would be on their shelves this afternoon at $13 a bottle.
