Last weekend two girlfriends and I spent two nights in NYC and managed to have cocktails at two clubs:  Pegu Club and Milk & Honey.  Wow – what completely different environments.

Pegu Club was definitely lively, quasi crowded, and fun.  Service was good and for the one drink we had standing up waiting for a table, the bartenders were quite friendly.  We finally got a table and about an hour after sitting down, the waitress came over with a drink saying that the bartender had accidentally made the wrong drink for another party, so he was sending it to us on the house.  Always nice when stuff like that happens!   Then after a couple of drinks the parties at the tables on either side of us joined in the conversation and our little group of three morphed into a party of nine.

Saturday night we hit M&H - Ab.so.lute.ly loved this place!  I stuck with two drinks I knew – the Corpse Reviver and A Last Word {as soon as we sat down my two friends informed that waitress that under NO circumstances was I allowed to order a Widow’s Kiss (long story)} to keep it simple.  And while the drinks were fabulous, the space/environment there is what makes this place.  The stemware that the drinks were served in was very elegant and the stamped tin roof & walls were gorgeous.  Aesthetically I’m much more attracted to authenticity then bright and shiny and this place completely spoke to me.  What an awesome space.

Thanks to those who gave me tips on where to go; I think we lucked out and got the best of the bunch.

Well, I'm jealous! Did you get to talk to Audrey Saunders at all? The more I make drinks she has invented, and the more I like them, the more I want to know what she is like in person. Now I'll try anything with her name on it.

Did you need a reservation at M&H? No Flatiron, no Death& Co.? Bemelman's? Heck, it s good thing I can't afford a trip to NYC even without the bars - I'd probably end up doubling my cost thru drink!
